ST13SE COTHELSTONE CP

3/93 The Old School House

GV II

School, now dwelling. Dated 1873. Red sandstone with Ham stone dressings,
moulded plinth, shallow pitched hipped slate roofs below high parapets,
stone stacks. Main facade faces South-east, 2 storey block with full
height canted bay, 5-light mullions using the tripartite baluster-type
mullions of Cothelstone Manor (qv), as do all the other windows. String
courses between storeys and high parapet. One storey block left with 4-
light mullion and string course continued around small block set in angle containing entrance and single light window. Left return elevation 3-light mullion, parapet topped by gable with ball finials and cap, containing
bell with plaque below inscribed - B73. Attractive attempt at developing
an Estate style. The property is also known as Woodcote.
