6/270 The Mill

Silk mill, now two dwellings. Circa 1800, converted mid C20. Red sandstone random rubble, brick dressings, slate roof,
rendered stacks off the ridge to right of centre. 2-storeys, 3:3:3 bays; first floor C20 2-light wooden casements under
segmental brick relieving arches 6 bays right, 2 bays left leaded 2-light openings under wooden lintels with loft
opening, studded plank door, and blocked opening to right. Ground floor, square headed opening below loft door, gabled
slate roofed porch, 3-light casements flanking 2-light, similar gabled porch to right with C20 French windows to right
and 3-light casement beyond. The building was reputedly 3 storeys high when built. The silk throwing industry only
lasted about 30 years in Milverton from 1800. Primarily listed for historical reasons.
