Tower. Early-mid C18. Red sandstone random rubble rendered on upper three storeys. Five storeys, single cell. Pilaster buttresses to north east and north west corners; projecting stone platt bands to second and third floors; cyma-moulded eaves string; parapet with angle merlons; angle gutter spouts (renewed).
South (roadside) elevation: central entrance with remains of timber arch in doorhead; central pointed-arched window opening to each upper floor, that on first floor with remains of cusped timber window head; flanking narrow windows on each floor, timber-lintelled on ground and first floors, triangular-headed above, those on upper floors with remnants of traceried heads.
Rear (north) elevation: central external chimney stack with a blind, triangular-headed narrow opening on each floor and flanking three-light, wooden, mullioned windows with wooden stanchions, those to ground floor right and first floor left moulded and probably late C16, reused.
Side elevations: central pointed-arched window openings to three upper floors; central ground floor door opening to east side.
Interior: smoke-blackened fireplace recess with side fireplace recess; sockets for joists (removed); lower three floors plastered from later use as habitation. Derelict at time of inspection.
Built by the Winter family as a keeper's cottage and eyecatcher.
