5/46 The Old Rectory


Rectory, now 3 dwellings. Circa 1861. Possibly by Edward Jeboult. Local random rubble Bath stone dressings, patterned
clay tile roof, decorative ridge tiles, coped verges with kneelers on cross wing gable ends, large stacks astride roof
ridge left and centre with 4 caps, external stepped stack rising on left return. L-plan. One and a half storeys, 1:3:1
bays; all stone mullioned windows with pointed arch heads, 3-light in gable ends below semi-circular relieving arches,
irregularly placed 2-light gabled dormers centre, 4-light mullioned and transomed windows below pointed relieving
arches in crosswings, projecting coeval conservatory with dentil moulded pedinented end, frieze of wooden columns with
recessed panels and pivotal windows with marginal glazing bars, entered on left return up flight of steps, glazed
partition right with projecting flat roofed canted bay, 3 and 2-light nullioned and transomed windows, gabled porch
abutting crossing, moulded pointed arch opening, similar to inner doorway, original door with decorative hinges. Long
gabled left return. Interior not seen. 4 typical mid Victorian rectory, remarkably unaltered. (Kelly's Directory,
