Gatepiers and gate to Norton Court (qv). Gatepiers C18, lions possibly earlier and reset, gates early-mid C19. Ham
stone and cast iron. Gatespiers: square, rusticated with square cuts joints, moulded cornice and plainth topped with
lions sejant. Gate: double with pierced fleurs-de-lys uprights. Jeboult states that the lions were the escutcheons of
the Prowse family who formely occupied Norton Court. (Jeboult, History of West Somerset, 1892)
