Kibbear Farmhouse,
gate and railings
II enclosing front garden.

Farmhouse. Probably C17, enlarged C18, refronted early C19. Rendered over
rubble and cob exposed on facade of north east wing, brick on facade centre,
roughcast south east wing, slate roofs centre, double Roman tiled north-west
wing with catslide on north front, large roughcast stack behind brick stack
rising from eaves right on central block also on cross wing left. Plan:
complex, original range on west front 2-cell and cross passage with room at
north gable end now incorporated into kitchen, C19 2-cell addition facing
east with cross passage on same axis, south east wing abutting, 2 ranges of
farmbuildings at rear. East front central block 2-storeys, 3-bays 20-pane
sashes left, 16-pane right and centre semi-circular doorway with leaded fanlight;
projecting hipped wing left with 16-pane sash under gable end first floor, entered
ground floor left return, agricultural wing abutting; set back to right
refronting of earlier building, 3-light window first floor,2-light below, square
headed doorway right; one bay, two storey extension right. Rear elevation;
remains of 2 light chamfered mullioned window above rear entrance to
cross passage. Brick faced cob and rubble north west wing in bad condition at time of
survey (March 1985). Interior: original cross passage, rooms on either side with
beams set laterally chamfered with nick and scroll stops, room at north east
with remains of possible panel ceiling or pmytition. Chamfered lintel to
fireplace and evidence of large bread oven now blocked. Original through passage
axis continued with early C19, panelled reveals to semi-circular headed opening,
stick stair, original doors. Upper storey not seen. Railing and gate early
C19; cast iron, spear head uprights with urn standards and scroll supports,
single gate to same design; enclosing garden forecourt to main block. An
interesting and complex farmhouse.
