2/78 The Gate House
Lodge. Circa 1860, subsequently enlarged. Buff brick with red brick quoins, unidentified
stone and red and blue brick dressings, decorative patterned clay tile pyramid roof with
overhanging eaves and large central brick stack. Plan:probably 2-cell with extension at
rear, Ruskinian Gothic style. Single storey, paired trefoil headed sash windows in
ashlar surrounds flanking central porch, pointed relieving arches of polychrome brick
work to window openings, gabled full height porch, decorative patterned clay tile roof,
projecting on returns, tall pointed arch ashlar openings,polychrome brick work voussoirs,
lower arches on returns, mid C20 half glazed door, Crenellated former apple house, now
dwelling, at rear not of special interest. A delightful lodge.
