Listing Text

6/139 Poundisford Farmhouse
Farmhouse C16, enlarged C17 and partly replaced in brick C18, altered C20. Roughcast
over rubble and cob in northern wing, painted brick on rubble plinth centre bay,
roughcast beyond, double Roman tiled roof, half hipped clay tile roof to northern wing
with central brick stack, brick stacks west gable end and centre of south front where
butt joint between brick and roughcast. Plan: possibly 2-cell lying east-west,
extended one bay south with agricultural store beyond, 2-cell block abutting north-west
corner. One and a half storeys, west front: cob wing left unlit but with 2 raking
buttresses, 3-light leaded iron casement in right return gable end above French window;
right gable end of original range 2 light leaded iron casement in gable end, half-glazed
C20 door below, to right gabled dormer with 3-light window and 3-light windows below in
brick bay with segmental headed 4-light unglazed louvred opening ground floor right.
Bread oven on rear elevation partly rebuilt and extended late C20. Interior not seen:
said to contain evidence of a cruck construction to east-west range, and step and runout
stops to chamfered beams in centre block.The northern block has been reroofed in the C19
and the exact evolution of the farmhouse is unclear.(VAG Report,unpublished SRO,July 1973).
