II

Farmhouse. C16, enlarged C18, refenestrated south front early C19, restored late C20. Roughcast over rubble, brick
agricultural wing, slate roofs, half hipped west wing, external stack east gable end marked by lean-to addition, upper
part rebuilt in brick, brick stack to hall fireplace, rising from eaves in west wing. Plan : possibly open hall house,
celled with 2-bay west wing, agricultural north-east wing, north west agricultural wing demolished. South front: 2
storeys, 1:3: bays, 16-pane sash windows first floor, ground floor 20-pane, with casement in lean-to addition masking
external stack, entered on return, main entrance centre, flat roofed wooden columnar porch, panelled door. Rear
elevation: chamfered arched door frame and 3-bay brick agricultural wing abutting. Interior: good moulded beams to hall
ceiling forming 3 rectangular panels lacking the cross beam one would expect to form a compartment ceiling. South room
of wing adjoining with 9-panel chamfered compartment ceiling, stud and panel partition between. Steeply chamfered
lateral beam with step and runout stops in northern room with blocked doorway on north front. Evidence of 3 pairs of
jointed cruck trusses but not visible in roof space. The building appears to have been reroofed when south front
refenestrated.
