6/40 Milepost on B3170 at NGR ST 2275

Milepost. Circa 1840, Iron founders Allen and Co of Taunton. Cast iron. Triangular in plan, hollow in section, sloping top and plinth with founders
name. Inscribed in raised lettering left side 'HONITON 11 3/8", right
"TAUNTON 7". Set at an angle leaning backwards, about 1.2m high. The
Honiton and Ilminster Trust obtained consent to turnpike the section
of road from Shoreditch, south of Taunton, to the Devon border by an Act of
1840. An almost complete set of mileposts survives along the road.
