3/54 Athelney Signal Box


Railway signal box. 1907 for Great Western Railway. Timber framed with timber cladding, hipped slate roof, boxed eaves,
2 ventilators on ridge. Standard signal box plan. Two storeys, 4-bays, first floor continuous glazing with horizontal
sliding sashes, two 2-light below; single light right return, entered on left return at first floor level via renewed
C20 external wooden stair. Interior not seen, said to contain glazed lobby to main room with original apparatus in situ
and 5 bar vertical tappet installed c1942. Painted in GWR colours. Still in use at time of survey (August 1985).
