Double farmyard including stables, animal houses, granary
and barn. Early C18. North range incorporated in late
C18 quadrangle. Red brick on hammer dressed sandstone
ashlar plinth; hipped old tile roofs with some machine made
tile patching. Quadrangular on a large scale divided north
south by lower ranges flanking dovecote (q.v.). 2 storeys,
eaves in parts with dentilled course, South side: 3 segment-
headed coach arches of 2 orders with key stones to left of
throughway, and also a small bullseye window. West side:
barn at S.W. end has 2 segment headed entries and walls
perforated for vents; centre and left of centre 4 implement
shed entries with drum piers and segment-headed relieving
arches above which are lozenge shaped vent perforations.
North side: 2 quoined outer breaks of 2 bays each with bull-
nose sills to windows. East side: has 9 gabled dormers.
Cross range: divides the fold yards and has an open fronted
shelter to north, the dovecote (q.v.), and a bull-pen of 2
storeys with pyramidal roof and acorn finial and flanking 3-
bay pigstyes. (these appear to be later C18). Interior of
Barn: queen strut, double purlin roofs. An impressive
country house farmyard, designed on model lines, perhaps
re-modelled in the later C18 by Capability Brown.
