Cottage. Probably c1860 (before 1877). Whitewashed massed concrete with plain-tile roof and brick ridge and end stacks. Single storey and attic with cross wing to left. Central C20 door in C20 porch with two-light casement to right and a two-light casement in dormer over this. To left in cross wing a three-light casement with two-light casement over. Small C20 single-storey extension on left end. Right end is semi-detached with No.3, (which is constructed of brick and not included). Interior has exposed joists. No 4 is an early example of massed concrete construction, the marks of the wooden slatting can be seen on the outside unplastered walls. A Sutherland estate map of 1858 does not show the cottages, but they appear on the first large scale O.S. map surveyed in 1877.
