SK 1810-1910 ELFORD C.P. THE SQUARE (South-east side)

10/81 The Cottage

Cottage. Late C17. Timber framed with rendered infill panels;
plain tile roof; brick central off-ridge stack. 2 framed bays aligned
north-east/south-west facing north-west. Formerly one storey and attic,
eaves level raised to make 2 storeys, 2 square panels to original eaves
level and straight braces; 2 windows, late C19 glazing bar casements,
C20 door to left of centre. Partly exposed roof truss to left hand
(north-east) gable, with vertical struts between collar and tie beam.
Interior: central roof truss has V-struts above the collar, and formerly
carried an angled ridge piece. Large open fireplace, stopped and
chamfered ceiling beams. Included for group value.
