Ashmore Brook Farm
SK 01 SE FAREWELL AND CROSS IN HAND LANE
Farmhouse. C16, C17 and early C19. Red brick and timber framing, with a plain
tile roof. 2 gable and a single lateral brick stacks. H plan; with the
central section containing a 2 storey medieval timber framed hall house,
floored-in in the C17 and clad in brick. 2 storey. Garden front 2 bays with a
glazing bar sash to the right and a canted bay window with glazing bar sashes
to the left. Above 2, 3 light casements. The entrance front has a cross wing
to the left, with a glazing bar sash on the ground floor, and a 3 light
casement above. Within the re-entrant angle a projecting battlemented porch,
with a moulded surround and a flat hood. The central former hall has a 3 light
casement to both floors, and to the right a part glazed C20 door. The
projecting rear cross wing has a single doorway and a 3 light casement, with a
similar flat head window above. All the remaining windows have segmental brick
Interior has an early C19 staircase, and doors. The hall has the main posts
and beams surviving, and the roof retains arched braces. The inserted floor
retains its massive chamfered beams in the ceiling of the kitchen.
