Schoolmaster's house. Dated 1717. Red brick with flared brick headers; plain
tile roof; brick end stacks. Aligned north-south facing west. 2 storeys and
gable-lit attic, storey bands, the lower one stepped up over the central door;
3 windows, glazing bar casements with segmental heads, retaining hinges for
former shutters. C20 door with segmental head and rectangular overlight.
Central inscription slab at attic level: 'THIS HOUSE WAS BUILT AT THE/ CHARGE
OF MR THOMAS BARNES/ NATIVE OF THIS PLACE AND A/ CITIZEN OF LONDON IN THE/YEAR
OF OUR LORD 1717. FOR/ THE DWELLING OF A PERSON TO/ TEACH THE CHILDREN OF
THIS/VILLAGE TO READ ENGLISH'. Single-storey lean-to extension to the left;
single-storey extension to the right with C20 casement.
