Brewery. 1875 by W. & S.T. Martin of Nottingham for Mann, Crossman & Paulin. Red brick
with blue brick and some stone dressings. Welsh slate roof partly concealed behind
parapet. 3 storeys, 4 to right. 9 bays defined by pilasters with round-headed blue
brick arches having stone keyblocks. Each bay has a tier of 3 round headed cast iron
casements (a few replaced) with radiating glazing bars, under round blue brick arches
with stone keyblocks. Impost bands, moulded brick eaves course; stone cornice and
plaque bearing name of the original brewers. Water tank above fourth storey of 3 bays
to right. Some C20 additions. Left return of 4 bays under gables of twin-span roof;
arcade and fenestration similar to principal facade. Boiler house to rear largely
obscured by C20 plant. Tall octagonal brick chimney - formerly one of two-has moulded
stone band and brick cap to upper stage; iron straps. Marston's Brewery was known
originally as the Albion Brewery.
