Terraced row of houses, now shops. Late C18. Coursed limestone
rubble; clay tile roofs with raised coped verges on kneelers; course
rubble integral end stacks. 2 storeys. In 3 parts. Left hand part:
(The Post Office) has 2:1 windows; right hand window in canted section
linking to central part; plain raised surrounds; larger ground floor
window to right (original shop window); left hand ground floor
window inserted into former doorway; glazing bar sashes to ground floor,
plate glass sashes to first floor left and right, fixed light to first
floor centre; double leaved, half glazed door to right with raised plaster
quoins. Centre part: 2-light plate glass casements to first floor; 3
glazing bar casements to ground floor, that to left of centre occupying
place of one of a former pair of matched doorways; plaster surrounds to both
windows and doorways; continuous moulded cornice hood to doors; oval
plaque to first floor centre with inscription: "J. HAMBLETON/MERCER
AND GROCER / Dealer inCoffee, Tea, Tobacco & Snuff". Right hand part:
Slightly recessed; one small casement window; C20 door to ground floor.
