Toll cottage. Circa 1830 with later alterations. Painted rendered brickwork; hipped roof of low pitch; end stack to right. Low, two-storey front of two windows; casements in imitation of glazing bar sashes with wedged heads; set back to right with first-floor window at extremity and ground-floor window grouped to centre with entrance (part- glazed C20 door) which is set against the toll bay: an octagon set into the angle of the building so that five sides are evident and fenestrated facing diagonally on to Tean Road. The turnpike roads into Cheadle were improved circa 1830. The cottage and several public houses (e.g. The Swan Inn [qv]) date from this period.
