attached cowhouse
II
Farmhouse and attached cowhouse. Early C19 remodelling of an C18
house. Ashlar; plain tile roof with coped verge to the north-west,
hipped to the south-east; ashlar and brick lateral external stack.
Aligned north-west/south-east with apsidal south-east end; house to
south-east, cowhouse to north-west. 2 storeys. South-east front;
3 windows, glazing bar sashes with semi-circular heads, first-floor
windows to left and right are blind and have painted imitation glazing
bars; central door with fanlight containing radiating glazing bars.
South-west front: 2-bay house to the right, single-bay cowhouse to
the left under the same roof line, glazing bar sashes of various sizes;
door to right of centre with chamfered and stopped lintel; cowhouse
window to ground floor left and loft door above. Reputed to have been
a hunting lodge for Alton Towers.
