Ornamental garden building garden tunnel entrance. 1848-1860, by
John Bateman. Random coursed rock-faced natural boulders placed to form
a roughly-arched tunnel-entry; side walls of coursed vaulting. 2m high
and 12m long, of curved layout. Arched entry to south appears dressed
to represent clasped hands to keystone. Forms part of perimeter peram-
bulation from the main house through the pinetum and terminated by the
Tea House (q.v.). The tunnel is part of the Chinese Garden landscaping
formed by the mounding of massive imported local boulders.
