Farmhouse. C16 with addition dated 1698 and alterations and additions of
mid-C19. Coursed and squared rubble, timber frame, brick infill and
repairs; tiled roof with verge parapets to stonework; brick centre
ridge stack. Extended 'T' lobby-entrance plan with cross wing as core.
Front in 3 parts of 2 storeys and attics; late C16 timber-framed gable
to left of centre with apex replaced in brickwork over closely-set
uprights, diagonal braces at tie and cill, stone plinth; enlarged C19
casements with small lattice lights to attic. C17 stone range to right
of gable with chamfer mullioned 2-light window to ground floor right and
small C19 light to first floor left, over massive, labelled lintel
inscribed Wm Reade and slightly arched; C19 part-glazed door.
Mar Reade Lower set-back mid-C19 bay to left of timber-
1698 framed gable. Right-hand gable has oculus
to apex over range of 3-light, chamfer-mullion windows. William Reade
was also responsible for work at Fields Farm (q.v.) and Blackwood Hill
Farm (q.v.).
