LONGSDON C.P.
LONGSDON
Barn approximately 26m south-west of Stonelowe Hall

GV
II

Barn. C17 with later alterations and additions. Coursed and dressed
rubble; blue machine tile roofs; verge parapets with moulded copings
and ball finials. Rectangular plan (with additions) on 2 levels with
hay loft over shippon (now store). Tall, short frontage with double
hay loft door to left of centre; 2-light casement window to right and
sliding door to left below; 2 rows of vents to upper level. Single-
storey stone addition of 2 windows to left and 2-level blockwork addition
of one window set back to right. It has been suggested that the barn
has served as a manorial prison or lock-up; this theory is endorsed by
the present owner (September 1984) on the grounds of the phantom foot-
steps heard on various occasions by disinterested witnesses; the search
for "maninloft-maninloft" is, however, as yet unrewarded.
