Gate lodge and gates to the Dalham Hall Estate, c.1900. In the
Queen Anne Revival Style. Gate lodge of one storey, irregular
plan. Red brick with lighter red quoins, bands of plaintiles,
the tiles set in herringbone fashion; limestone block quoins.
All bricks are narrow (about 5cm). Plaintiled roofs, hipped but
with a gable at the entrance; central chimney of 4 tall attached
square flues, red brick with limestone bands and moulded caps.
Small-pane casements, some with hinged panelled shutters, under
flat arches of gauged brick and limestone; beneath the cill a
raised apron. Fine prominent entrance doorway of limestone:
shouldered architrave; scrolled pediment on carved console
brackets; in the pediment is a carved coat of arms in relief.
Pair of entrance doors, each having 4 fielded panels. A pair of
wrought iron carriage gates on heavy piers of red brick with
limestone banding and a moulded limestone base and capping. On
either side a pedestrian gateway and another pier. Over the
gateway is a brick arch with gabled limestone coping. On either
flank is an elliptical screen wall of red brick with bands of
herringbone plaintiling, moulded limestone coping and terminal
pier. All piers are surmounted by a statue of a mythical
creature. Central in the screen walls is a niche with a circular
head of gauged brick, sunk within a square frame.
