Description

TL 76 SW DALHAM THE SOUNDS

6/25 No 12
27.I.72 (Formerly listed as Nos.12
and 14 under Lidgate Road)

II

House. C15, with alterations of C18 and c.1970. A small open-
hall house with cross-wing. Hall one-and-a-half storeys with
attic, wing 2 storeys. Timber-framed and rendered. Thatched
roof, hipped to left and at rear, with eyebrow casement dormer
and axial chimney of red brick. C20 casements and pantiled-
roofed one-storey entrance porch with glazed door. The house has
lap-jointed arch-bracing, an archaic technique surviving into the
C15 in the Dalham area; perhaps the work of one carpenter and his
apprentices. The original roof of coupled rafter type, later
rebuilt with clasped purlins. Small, blocked, 2-light
mullioned window openings with shutter rebates. Major
alterations including virtual re-roofing C18, and again, with
rear extension c.1970.
