TL 76 SW DALHAM THE STREET

6/33 The Old Manor

House. Early C18 with early C17 core and C19 alterations in 2
stages. 2 storeys, 3 windows. Rendered walls - the C17 work
probably of clunch with brick dressings, the C18 extensions
timber-framed. Early or mid C19 alterations to rear of flint
rubble with red brick quoins. Plaintiled roofs with, at the
north end, a parapet gable with moulded brick copings; axial
chimney of red brick with 4 C19 attached octagonal flues on a
rendered plinth. Early C19 small-pane sash windows to front. 2
fine early C17 oak mullioned and transomed windows in the left-
hand gable, another blocked-in at the rear. Early C19 glazed
panelled entrance door, deeply recessed. The C17 core of 2 cells
to left; extended C18 by 1 cell to right, with kitchen wing
behind, the whole roof renewed also at this time. Further
remodelling and rear extension in mid C19. The house is believed
to have been a dower house, occupied in the C17 by one of the.
Stuteville family of Dalham Hall. Formerly known as Hall
Farmhouse.
