Description

TL 76 NW MOULTON NEWMARKET ROAD

3/70 Lanwades House

II

House. Early C16 with major alterations of mid C19. 3-cell
plan; 2 storeys. Timber-framed; the front wall encased and
partly rebuilt in rough-cast rendered masonry in C19, the rear
wall rendered. Plaintiled roof with pierced ridge tiles and
rendered axial chimney. C19 windows in painted chamfered stone
frames; mullioned and transomed casements. 6-panelled entrance
door, the upper panels glazed; broad stone architrave and cornice
on console brackets. The house has good quality C16 timber-
framing, largely concealed by plaster, but with close-studding at
the left hand gable end and a complete coupled-rafter roof
formerly hipped at the right hand end. A large mid C19 extension
to rear of gault brick and slate, with details in the Gothick
manner. Included despite alterations of C19 and C20 because of
its early and good quality timber-framed core.
