TL 6463 NEWMARKET HIGH STREET
7/120 Horse Racing
Horse-racing museum, formerly subscription rooms. Early C19,
restored c.1980. Garden elevation: 2 storeys, 6 windows with
projecting wing to left. Painted gault brick. Hipped slated
roofs. Early C19 sash windows with flat arches of gauged brick,
with small-pane sashes at upper floor and large pane sashes with
panelled internal shutters at ground floor. Glazed C20 entrance
doors. A mid-C19 1-storey room has 3 bays of blank arcading and
a coffered ceiling with a central lantern. The building was
originally a betting establishment, later becoming a part of the
Jockey Club Headquarters.
