ICKLINGHAM
THE STREET
Nos. 7 & 9

II

Pair of cottages. Built C16 or early C17 as one house. C19 alterations and
extension. 1 storey and attics, 3-cell plan. Timber-framed and plastered.
Thatched roof with eyebrow casement dormers. Central chimney of gault brick.
Small-pane C19 casements and boarded entrance door. A rear extension of flint
rubble with brick quoins was added C19. The central chimney has back-to-back
fireplaces to hall and parlour; both are infilled, but the hall fireplace has
an exposed cambered lintel with trailing-leaf carving of early C16 type.
Other exposed framing suggests a later C16 date; the lintel may be reused.
