TL 7174 MILDENHALL HIGH STREET
12/49 Nos. 17 and 19
Bank and part of Public House, early C16 with early C20 alterations. 2 storeys
and attics. Timber-framed and rendered, partly with exposed framing, the
walling rebuilt C20 up to 1st floor level in red brickwork. The upper floor is
jettied along the High Street, with arch-braced close-studding and trailing-
leaf carved bressumer. The gable to the Market Place has early C20 carved
barge boards and spike finial. Plaintiled roof with bands of fish-scale tiles;
2 casement dormers with segmental heads. A large C16 rear chimney of red brick
to no. 17. Mainly C20 casements with leaded lights; no 19 has a C19 splayed bay
shop window with small panes and a shop-fascia above. Some good C16 timber-
framing exposed internally, restored C20. The roof was rebuilt (apart from the
gable end) after a fire c.1970.
