No. 42 and Timbers

2 houses, formerly one. Late C16 with alterations of C18 and mid C20. 1½
storeys and attics. 3-cell lobby-entrance plan. Timber-framed and rendered;
the walling of No. 42 rebuilt in rendered masonry. Roman pantiled roof with
gabled casement dormers and axial chimneys of gault brick. C20 casements and
glazed entrance doors. Timbers has an axial chimney with large open fireplace
to hall and exposed framing. Complete wind-braced clasped-purl in roof of good
quality. No. 42 was formerly the service end of the house and was almost
rebuilt C18; the C20 extension to left is not of special interest. Included
despite C20 alterations because of good quality timber-framing particularly at
roof level.
