A timber-framed and plastered building of C16 or C17 origin but very
much altered in the C18 and later. Isaac Taylor, the engraver and father
of Jane and Ann Taylor ("Twinkle Twinkle Little Star") bought this house
in 1793 where he lived with his family for 3 years before moving to
Colchester. Roof tiled, with a tall central ridge chimney stack. Two
storeys. Four window range of double-hung sashes with glazing bars.
The outer ranges on the ground storey are tripartite windows with narrow
side panes. A central 6-panel door with a semi-circular fanlight has
a Tuscan doorcase with deep panelled reveals, plain columns and an open
pediment on console brackets. A wing extends to the east at the rear.
