Steps, parterre retaining walls, urns and pool basin containing statue of Diana.
1850s by W A Nesfield for Berners family. Artificial stone. Double flight of
steps to parterre retaining wall which contains a pool basin with a statue of
Diana on a pedestal. Further parterre retaining walls flanking the house, cir-
cular on plan with urns to centre. Forms part of garden layout designed by
Nesfield and described in 1867 as 'the masterpiece of all his productions'. The
layout of the parterre can still be distinguished at time of resurvey and the
designs are illustrated in Gardeners Chronicle 16.2.1867 p158. Photograph in
