House divided in two, said to have been an inn. C16 and later. Timber framed,
rendered, brick wing to rear, plaintile roofs, with long hip and gablet to right
over extended bay. 2 storeys, 3 cell lobby entry plan, originally 2 cells.
Central rear wing forming T plan. Pair of boarded doors, both below stack.
2-light small paned timber casement to left, 2-light timber casement to right. 2
small first floor openings, one to stairs, in front of stack, one to right bay.
Large axial stack, with 2 diagonally set square shafts, partly rebuilt, probably
inserted; 2-light dormer casements to rear, left and right of central wing. 2
storey brick wing has various casements, cross axial brick stack set back from
the gable. Interior. No 26 (left) single cell. Some exposed close studded
frame. Chamfered axial beam without stops. Stairs in front of stack, has
rounded newel, original treads and risers. Side purlin roof with renewed
rafters. Cellar. No 25 (right) restored. 2 cells, that to right a later
addition of thinner scantling. Former closed truss, now partition wall, has
middle rail. Partly jowled storey post. Chamfered beams, horizontal joists to
main room. Stack largely rebuilt. Stairs to front of end bay. Roof enclosed
but externally 2 layers of rafter feet are exposed.
