6/20 Knight's Farmhouse


GV II

House. C16 or earlier with later additions and alterations. Exposed timber-frame
to first floor, red brick casing to ground floor. Red plain tiled roof with gable
to right. Off centre large red brick chimney stack. 2 storeys. Single storey red
brick extension to left with grey slate roof. Arched braces to first floor angles
and 3 casements with cross transoms. Ground floor, 4 small paned vertically sliding
sashes, segmental heads. 6-panel door, segmental head. Inglenook fireplace with
cast-iron grate and hobs. Chamfered bridging joists, flat section ceiling beams.
Centre newel to stick baluster staircase, earlier moulded handrail to lower section.
Original rear wall mullion window. Jowled storey posts. Arch braced tie-beam by
chimneystack with one brace cut away. Plastered chamfered segmental arched bedroom
fire surround. Panelled door with original ironmongery.
