5/22 The Walnuts

House. C13/C14 core with C15/C16 and later alterations and additions. Timber-
framed and plastered. Red pantiled roofs. External left chimneystacks to right
and left ranges, right stack through ridge of left range. One storey and attics.
Left range, two storey right range, this with hipped roof with gablet. 2:1 C20
casements. C20 porch and door to left range, C20 French windows to right range.
C20 rear extensions. The original left range of C13/C14 has a crosswing to right
which appears to be C15/C16. The original range to left has heavy, widely spaced
wall studs with a large halved arch brace visible to front wall. Below the top
plate is a blocked original window with closely set diamond mullions. Although
much worn the splayed top plate scarfs have undersquinted abutments. The roof is
boarded below the collars, the apex not visible at time of resurvey, but some
original rafters appear to be intact. Inserted ceiling to ground floor. Inserted
back to back inglenook fireplace serving left and right ranges, that to right
blocked and with segmental arch to bake-oven. Jowled storey posts to right range
and top plate only visible at time of resurvey.
