with gateway in north face

GV II

Garden wall and gateway. C17 origin with C19 and later repairs and alterations.
Red brick, mainly crenellated, to the south west the wall has been incorporated
into later service wing extensions. The gateway in the north face is stuccoed,
octagonal columns with bases and crenellated capitals, domes with moulded finials,
carved stone brackets to wall. Finial to north west angle of the wall. The house
is approached from Lower Street by a long, tree-lined drive leading through the
gateway. There are remnants of a blocked gateway in the south west face of the
wall with gauged brick arch, pilasters with moulded capitals and bases, moulded
band over, above this gateway rises the rear wall of a later service wing.
