CODDENHAM COOPER ROAD
8/16 Ivy Farmhouse
Farmhouse, C17 with alterations of C18 and C19. Originally of 2-cell lobby-
entrance plan, with a service cell added to left in C18. Main range of 1
storey with attics; two prominent C19 2-storey extensions. Timber-framed and
pebble-dashed. Plaintiled roof with one gabled casement dormer. A C17 axial
chimney, rendered at the base; the shaft rebuilt in C19 red brick. Mainly C20
casements. In front of the parlour cell, a block was added in mid C19 with a
slated roof, both south gables being given undulating bargeboards and spike
finials. Small-pane sashes and 6-panelled entrance door with oblong fanlight.
Flat-roofed open porch on Tuscan columns. The C17 range has typical framing;
chamfered joists laid flat, and wind-braced butt-purlin roof. Various C18 and
C19 extensions at rear. The house stands adjacent to a mediaeval homestead
