8/21 No.13, The Cottage and
Two cottages, built early or mid C16 as one 2-cell house with alterations of
C17 and later. 2 storeys. Timber-framed, No.13 is plastered and No.15
pebble-dashed. Plaintiled roof, hipped at the left-hand end. A C16/C17 axial
chimney of red brick to right, and C19 external chimneys to rear and left.
Mainly C20 small-pane casements, one being of cantilevered bay form - perhaps
replicating a previous shop window. C19 entrance doors, one panelled and one
boarded. The service cell to left has blocked 4-centred arched doorway once
leading to the hall to right; perhaps one of a pair. Unmoulded framing and
crownpost roof. Two rear wings were added in late C17/C18; that behind No.15
has a mid C18 parlour with good fireplace and corner cupboard.
