House, built in 2 sections: a mid C16 2-storey 2-bay cross-wing; and a rear
extension of one storey with attics added c.1700. Timber-framed and
roughcast; the upper floor is end-jettied with exposed joist-ends and
bressumer. Pantiled roof, formerly thatched; an axial C16/C17 chimney of red
brick. C19 and C20 small-pane casements. Boarded C18/C19 entrance door. The
C16 wing was attached to a vanished hall range to left. Beneath the jetty,
and in left-hand side wall, are wide 4-centred arched windows and doorways,
probably indicating original use of the wing as a shop. A smaller arched
doorway, also blocked, would have led into the hall. Heavy unmoulded framing:
very closely-spaced studwork, diamond-mullioned windows now blocked, and a
plain crownpost roof with plank braces. A chimney with 3 flues was inserted
into the rear bay in late C16, with integral newel staircase; altered
lintelled open fireplaces. The C17 rear wing has inferior arch-braced
studwork, and reused heavy floor joists of C16 type.
