House, latterly with a shop. Mid C16, extended or part rebuilt late C17,
extended C19, altered C20. Timber frame, roughcast. Steeply pitched black
glazed pantiled roof. 4 storeyed bays with service end to right, 2 later bays
to left. 2 storeys. Ground floor: a straight joint to slighly recessed later
build, to right a part glazed door, architraved French windows and a large C20
bow window replacing shop window, to left a 4 panelled architraved door, 2
small casements. First floor four 4:8 pane architraved sashes and a 2-light
casement. Spocket eaves, axial ridge stack in left bay of early build has a
moulded base, rebuilt cap. To rear left a C19 single glazing bar sash, 2
brick and clay lump pantiled lean-to's blocking an early lobby entrance, to
right a C19 whitewashed brick 1 bay lower 2 storey addition with a slate rof
leading to The Cottage (q.v.), outer half glazed blocked door, first floor 2-
light leaded casement. Interior: close studding with chamfered mid-rail, bar
stop chamfered cross axial binding beam, joists and storey posts, depressed
arched doorhead behind, stack, later chamfered axial binding beam in parlour,
cranked arched braces in early walls, arched braces to stop chamfered cambered
tie beams to queen post roof, 4 bays with arched braces to cranked collars and
to plates/purlins; in later build reverse curved tension bracing, clasped
purlin roof.
