GV II

House. Early C17, altered C19. Timber frame, plastered. Thatched roof. 4
bay, 2 cell lobby entry plan. 1 storey and attic. Entrance slightly to left
of centre, architraved boarded door with 3 glazed lights, open timber gabled
porch with decorative bargeboards, flanking 3-light glazing bar casements, to
far right or service end a small leaded light, all with hoodboards. Central
axial ridge stack. Gable end 2 and 3-light part opening casements, pentice
boards, exposed plates and purlins with a shaped bracket to front left. To
rear boarded doors flanking a small early 1 bay 1 storey wing, 3 light
casements, a boarded door, collars clasping purlins. Interior: frame largely
concealed, some close studding, part rebuilt to left, stop chamfered cross
axial binding beams and joists; over fireplace to right a moulded stone block
with a carved lion and coronet, probably taken from Westhorpe Hall (q.v.).
Arched windbraces to side purlin roof.
