Two cottages; built c.1600 as one farmhouse. 3-cell cross-entry plan. 1
storey with attics. Timber-framed and plastered; much underbuilding in mid
C19 red brick now painted. Pantiled roof, once thatched, with one C20 flat-
roofed casement dormer. A massive axial early C17 chimney of red brick; the
square base has an empty date panel, and the 4 octagonal flues have moulded
bases. Late C19/C20 casements and boarded entrance doors. No.58 has
lambs tongue-stopped chamfers to main beams, and unchamfered floor joists.
Arched wind-braced studding. Late C17 2-tier butt-purlin roof with heavy
principals; the original tiebeams were removed at this date. An internal
partition has an unusual long screen of early C18 turned balusters. Interior
of No.57 not examined.
