5/1 Forge Cottage


House, C18, with possible earlier core. One storey and attics. Timber-framed
and plastered. Thatched roof; an axial C17/C18 chimney of red brick and a
late C18/early C19 chimney. One thatched gabled C19 casement dormer. Mainly
mid C20 casements. C19 4-panelled door at lobby-entrance. The left hand
(west) cell has framing of C18 type exposed internally; elsewhere the framing
is concealed, but the core of the remaining 3 cells may be of C17. Probably
built as a blacksmith's house; the house known as Farthings to the west (not
included) was the forge.
