Description

ONEHOUSE LOWER ROAD
TM 05 NW

2/146 Garage and store, formerly
oast house, 20m north of
24.6.86 Onehouse Hall

GV II

Former oast house, converted to garage and store in C20. C17 or early C18
core, possibly altered in C19. Red brick, plastered externally in C20.
Pantiled roof with twin flues of pyramid form, slated. Boarded C20 garage
doors in south wall. Designed with two cells; a large breach later formed in
dividing wall. A floor was originally suspended about 1.50m above ground
level; this has been removed, but the large square tiles, pierced with a grid
of small holes, are reused in the present floor. An elliptical-headed opening
into the lower chamber (now blocked) in the north wall. A good oak framed
roof with 2 tiers of butt purlins, of late C17 or C18 type, is altered for the
later plastered flues.
