Farmhouse. In 2 builds: the south cell is C15, the north cell a C16 addition.
Timber-framed, part plastered and part with modern cement render; the north
gable end is encased in colourwashed brick to eaves level. Pantiled roof. 2
storeys and attic. 2-cell form. 3 windows, C18 3-light casements with large
panes. 3 boarded doors. Internal axial stack. The earlier part comprises a
former open hall. The open truss has a cambered tie beam with heavy arched
braces. There is a queen-post roof: the collar of the open truss carries a
king post which supports a ridge piece, a very unusual form (cf. Poplar
Farmhouse, Oakley). All the medieval roof components are smoke-blackened. At
the south extremity of the east wall is a blocked external doorway with 4-
centre arched head, indicating that the medieval service end has been lost.
The C16 cell has some close studding, a number of blocked original windows and
an intact roof structure. C16 newel stairs (both flights).
