Tomb of Archbishop Sancroft (1617-1693), in the angle of the porch and south
aisle of the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul. A white marble tomb chest with
stone slab. On the front an inscription in Latin, composed by himself; at one
end another inscription in English. The slab is carved with a shield of arms
bearing the coat of the see of Canterbury impaled with that of the Sancroft
family, and ensigned with an Archi-episcopal mitre. Archbishop Sancroft was
born and died at Ufford Hall (Item 8/34); he was Archbishop of Canterbury
l678-1690 and a promotor of the rebuilding of St. Paul's Cathedral.
