TM 28 SE
2/76 Thorpe Hall
-
29.7.55
-- II

Farmhouse. C16 and early C17. Timber framed, plastered with textured finish.
Roof of concrete plaintiles. 2 storeys and attic. L-shape plan: a 3-cell
main range with slightly later wing to north. South front with 3 windows,
flush-frame sashes with glazing bars; C19 half-glazed door. Internal stack
with detached octagonal shafts; moulded brick bases, original caps missing.
Against the west gable end a later external stack. In the angle of the 2
ranges is a 2-storey gabled addition with an C18 cross window on the first
floor. Some good studding is visible inside both wings, with evidence for
many original windows. The main range has been altered to accommodate a C19
staircase. Roof over main range has clasped and butt purlins, with arched
wind-bracing; the roof of the later wing is identical except that the butt
purlins are staggered.
