4/23 Sancroft Cottage

Farmhouse. Early C17. Timber framed with roughcast render. Roof of modern
concrete pantiles. 2 storeys and attic. 2-cell form. Various small C19 and
C20 casement windows. To the right a gabled porch and boarded door. Central
axial stack, the shaft rebuilt mid C20. Some good framing with reversed
corner bracing. First floor structure has joists set on edge and supported on
ledges nailed to the frame. The attic floor joists are set flat. Roof with
clasped and butt purlins and slightly cranked windbraces. Newel stairs. Over
a first floor fireplace a small late C17 plaster panel showing a vase of fruit
and flowers and a bird in the centre.
