Description

LAXFIELD BICKERS HILL ROAD
TM 27 SE

9/36 Blyth House
-

-- II

House. C16-early C17, probably in 2 phases. Timber framed, mainly plastered;
colourwashed brick to right and mid 020 red brick to right gable end. Hipped
pantiled roof. 2 storeys. Casement windows, mostly of mid C20 date. 2
internal stacks. Single storey colourwashed brick wing to rear, originally
detached, now joined by mid C20 entrance addition. Modernised interior with
much exposed studding and a number of original windows with cavetto and
diamond mullions. Plain joists in hall and parlour. Evidence for original
service doorways, the partition now removed. It seems likely that the
original service end has been enlarged and the stack here inserted at a later
date. Roof not examined but likely to be C18.
